PRIDE GUIDE 1998 GAY PEOPLE'S CHRONICLE A-11
Cincinnati celebrates gay Pride all month long
by David Hughes Cincinnati-Pride has been expanded to include the entire month of June, as well as late May.
The Cincinnati Gay and Lesbian Community Center announced a new format for Pride in 1998. The Pride committee is now organized as a program of the center, headed by co-chairs Bruce Preston and Lycette Nelson.
Preston is a long-time Cincinnati Pride organizer, including parades and festivals, and Nelson is the current executive director of Stonewall Cincinnati.
Organizations and businesses throughout the Cincinnati area have been encouraged to produce official Pride month events. As a result, there are more Pride-related events in 1998 than ever before.
Films, cruise, breakfast
The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network is holding a film festival the first weekend of June. The Cincinnati Youth Group will host the fifth annual Pride Pancake Breakfast Saturday, June 6.
The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Greater Cincinnati will have its annual Pride Month river cruise on the Ohio River Friday, June 12.
The Cincinnati Men's Chorus and the Detroit Together Men's Chorus will give a joint concert June 13 and 14.
An Interfaith Spirituality Service will take place on Saturday, June 20.
Stonewall Cincinnati is holding its annual dinner as a Pride event this year June 27.^
Pride will extend beyond June with the Gay and Lesbian Community Center's Pride Night '98 at Paramount's Kings Island amusement park September 25, an event which drew 2,500 people last year.
Get on the bus for Ohio Pride
The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Cincinnati and People of All Colors Together are joining forces to send buses to Columbus on June 28 for the annual statewide LesBiGay Holiday produced by Stonewall Columbus.
Gather at the center, 214 East Ninth Street 5th floor, downtown, between 9 and 9:30 am. Boarding will begin at 9:30 so that we can get to Columbus to see old friends and make new ones from around the state while joining in Ohio's largest gay pride parade and festival.
Expect to arrive back in Cincinnati a couple of hours after the festival ends, approximately mid-evening. Tickets are $20 roundtrip. Call 513-651-0040 for more information.
LGBT rally will give visibility
Aware on the Square, a rally and visibility event to show our numbers and highlight our issues, will take place Tuesday, June 23 on Fountain Square downtown, starting at noon.
Elected officials and activists will address the status of the anti-gay Issue 3 city charter amendment, the role of youth in our move-
Center has private Kings Island night in September
by David Hughes
The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Greater Cincinnati is proud to announce plans for Pride Night '98 at Paramount's Kings Island amusement park on Friday, September 25.
Nearly 2,500 people attended last year's first-ever private party event produced at Kings Island by GLBT organizers. We hope to double that
number in 1998.
The gates will open at 5 pm and rides, entertainment, food, and fun will continue until the climactic fireworks conclusion at 11 pm.
We will be recreating last year's hugely successful "Center Stage" at FestHaus. This
is a large, German-style
beer garden with two stages and seating for about 1,000 people. Expect music and comedy with several special guests.
Tickets are $25 in advance. Many lesbiangay community centers throughout the Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and Pennsylvania region have agreed to be ticket outlets.
Tickets can also be ordered by telephone for $28.50 each by calling Box Office Tickets, a gay-owned national ticketing service, at 800-494-8497. Box Office accepts Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. Finally, for last-minute folks, tickets will be available at the gate for $30 each. Season passes will not be honored on this date.

by Chris Harris
Cincinnati-As part of Cincinnati's Pride month activities, an interfaith spirituality service will take place on June 20 at the Church of Our Savior, 65 E. Hollister, at 8 pm.
This service will use readings and meditations from many different faith traditions, including Native American and Wiccan cultures. Music will be offered from various ensembles in the Cincinnati area.
Rev. Bonnie Daniel of New Spirit Metro-
politan Community Church will preach the sermon, titled "The Many Voices of God."
Participation is expected from St. John's Unitarian, Congregation Beth Adam, Grace Episcopal, Integrity, Dignity, New Thought Unity, and Mt. Auburn Presbyterian. ment, the role of businesses in creating a more open community and other topics. Live music and entertainment will also be featured.
Since there is no march scheduled for Cincinnati's Pride month, Aware on the Square is our chance to come out and show Cincinnati that we are here and speaking out for our rights. For more information, call 513-651-2500.
Run benefits Team Cincinnati
The Cincinnati Frontrunners, an organization of GLBT runners and walkers, is producing the second annual 5k Pride Run/Walk on Saturday, June 27 as part of Pride Month.
Once again, this event will benefit Team Cincinnati USA, a program of the Gay and Lesbian Community Center. Team Cincinnati is preparing to send 30 artists and athletes to Gay Games V in Amsterdam.
All runners and walkers, regardless of ability level, are encouraged to participate. The event will begin at 9:30 am at Lunken Playfield. Registration forms are available at most Cincinnati GLBT businesses and at the center. The registration fee is $5 before June 19, $7 after June 19.
